ST. MARY'S C of E PRIMARY SCHOOL

East Grinstead, West Sussex

Class 6

The Hoodies Have Landed!

We are so excited to get our Leavers' Hoodies! Don't we look great?!

Moth

Inspired by the amazing book "Moth" by Isabel Thomas, we learned how the Peppered Moth was forced to adapt to its changing surroundings during the Industrial Revolution of the 1800s, and how this led to its survival.

We created our own Peppered Moths, and tested out how camouflaged they were against a variety of backgrounds.

First Aid Training

We spent a fantastic afternoon learning the basics of First Aid, and had an opportunity to try resuscitation and defibrillators. We were able to apply our knowledge of the circulatory system, from our Science lessons.

Bikeability

We really enjoyed the opportunity to improve our cycling skills, and to show that we can be safe on the road on our bikes. We were all very proud of the progress we made.

Evacuation Day

We really enjoyed dressing up as WW2 evacuees - don't we look fantastic in our costumes?! We took part in an interesting and very interactive workshop with The Royal Armouries, where an ARP Warden and a member of the Home Guard put us through our paces!

A huge thank you to Mr Hobbs, who brought a wonderful array of trucks, replica artefacts and costumes for us to try out!

Remembrance

We all created a beautiful poppy, and added them to photographs of our own hands. We thought carefully about the sacrifices made by so many so that we can live in freedom today.

Harvest

We took part in our KS2 Harvest celebration, performed a Harvest Rap with Class 5, and some of us were chosen to be servers and help Father Adam.

Our lovely Buddies

We are so excited to welcome our Class R Buddies to St. Mary's, and we are looking forward to a fantastic year with them, building lovely friendships and having lots of fun together. We hope they will all be as happy here as we have been.

Our Lovely Classroom

We have a lovely, big space for our learning, a bright and sunny room that opens straight onto our Y6 area, which has wonderful tables, personalised with our school logo. We can use these for outdoor learning, and, in the summer, enjoy a lovely wildflower garden.

We are lucky enough to have a huge range of fiction and non-fiction books, newspapers and magazines in our classroom, and we love reading! New releases and award-winning books wing their way onto our shelves, and we love to read books linked to our themes. We have a class ticket for the town library, and regularly borrow a wide variety of different reading material.
