A fantastic year of learning and fun!
Taekwondo
We had a free taster Taekwondo lesson learning about how martial arts can help with discipline, focus, respect and fitness.
The Big Sing
We were invited to take part in The Big Sing put on West Sussex Music for local primary schools. Class 5 performed our own song choice of 'Rockin' Robin' as well as singing 'Beautiful Creatures' and 'Follow the Heron Home' with all the other schools.
Science - Forces
We took part in the Parachute Challenge, using our scientific understanding of forces. We had to create a parachute that would stay in the air for the longest by maximising air resistance and minimising gravity.
Golf
We enjoyed developing our Golf skills, including hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
Stations of the Cross
We had the privilege of leading the 'Stations of the Cross' for St Mary's, depicting the events which ended with Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection, through bible readings and drama.
VR - Space
We really enjoyed having VR headsets to explore the planets of our Solar System to help extend our knowledge for our Space Science topic.
Red Nose Day 2025
For Red Nose Day, the St Mary's Sport Crew put on an activity session for us to practice our skills and team tactics.
From Eggs to Baby Chicks
As part of our Science topic on animal lifecycles, we were privileged to have a number of eggs that hatched into chicks. We studied their development closely.
World Book Day 2025
We dressed up as our favourite book characters for World Book Day.
Christmas 2024
Happy Christmas, everyone! Here we are enjoying our Christmas lunch!
December Dash
St Mary's Sports Crew put on a December Dash exercise session for us which was lots of fun.
Culinary Arts
Over the course of the year, we have had four Culinary Arts sessions where we have learnt about food groups, how to prepare vegetables for a salad, how to make bread and how to serve customers in the hospitality industry.
Circus Skills
As part of our 'All Different, All Equal' topic and studying parts of The Greatest Showman, we had a fun day learning circus skills.
RE Assembly
Over the Autumn term, we have been studying Christianity and the importance of the gospel. We presented all of our learning in an assembly to the school.
ROAR 2024
Class 5 and 6 were invited to take part in a national competition to design and make a futuristic invention to help the world become a better place. We developed technology that helped with protecting the environment, recycling, entertainment and supporting people with impairments.
Music - Notation
We had fun learning about music notation and how to write notes of varying lengths to create complex rhythmic patterns to perform.
Computing - Coding
We have been studying how online platform games are constructed and learnt how to code instructions to create our own versions.
NSPCC - Keeping Safe
Representatives from the NSPCC visited the class to discuss how we can keep ourselves safe and who to turn to if we have worries.
Kicks Dance Academy
We were very fortunate to have a series of dance lessons from Kicks which culminated in being involved in an exciting dance show.
Reading Buddies
We have really enjoyed encouraging and supporting Year 1 in learning how to read and developing lasting friendships in the school.
Class 5 Residential
Class 5 really enjoyed our residential to Cobnor Activity Centre, which also included a visit to Dell Quay and Arundel Wetlands Centre.
Fishborne to Dell Quay
On our first day, we walked from Fishborne to Dell Quay, following the course of the river to the sea. We studied the geography of the river tributaries before completing a workshop exploring the water cycle and the effects of weather and seasons.
Cobnor Activity Centre
We had lots of fun at Cobnor completing a variety of activities to develop team building skills, challenge our problem solving abilities and keep us physically active.

Arundel Wetlands Centre
At the end of our residential, we visited Arundel Wetland Centre. We took part in a climate change awareness workshop and then were able to explore the centre, discovering a variety of plants, animals and birds that rely on the wetlands to survive and flourish.
